On behalf of the San Luis Obispo County Child Abuse Prevention Council(SLO-CAP) we invite you to join us in recognizing April 2013 as Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month. This annual opportunity to promote your critical work includes a focus on the importance of protective factors that increase the health and well-being of children and their families.

 Research tells us that what children learn through their early interactions with parents and caregivers becomes the foundation for all future development. While safe, nurturing relationships and stimulating, stable environments improve brain development and child well-being, neglectful or abusive experiences and unstable, stressful environments increase the odds of poor outcomes.

 By recognizing and building on existing strengths, we can support all families and communities in providing positive and healthy environments for children. Please take a moment to review SLO-CAP programs, which emphasize ways individuals can contribute to the healthy development of children and families. 

We encourage you to share these resources with your agency staff, community partners, and most importantly with the families you serve. Child Abuse Prevention Month is also a great platform for sharing your work and discussing your vital preventive services with local policymakers and community allies.

 Resource Fair to Connect Early Childhood Providers & Families

 
(San Luis Obispo, CA)  – Parenting is tough, but help is closer than you think! Dozens of services and support groups from across San Luis Obispo County will be available to families during a special event March 6th, at a convenient time—when school is out, and the work day is done!
 
What:         Children’s Resource Fair
When:         Wednesday, March 6, 2013
Time:          4:30-7:30pm
Where:       Laguna Middle School – Multipurpose Room (1150 Los Osos Valley Rd)
Who:           Early Childhood Providers from across SLO County & Families 
                     (aimed at ages 0-5)
 
More than 30 agencies, from all across SLO County, dedicated to early childhood needs, will be on site to provide information, advice and resources ranging from medical, dental, counseling, clothing, food, safety and parenting. There will also be goodie kits, healthy snacks, children’s activities, giveaways and prizes!
 
“This event is a great way for us to educate and empower our families on all of the services available to them in the care and upbringing of young children,” said Lisa Fraser, Executive Director, San Luis Obispo Child Abuse Prevention Council. “We invite everyone to come out and learn first-hand our local communities’ commitment to little ones, plus, walk away with some valuable tools for parenting.”
