Monthly Educational Public Forums / NEXT PUBLIC FORUM

Monthly educational forums/public meetings are held for professionals and interested individuals to share information and ideas and to promote safer childhoods for our children. These meetings feature key speakers from various fields and are open to the public as well as individuals working in child abuse prevention related professions.

The Public Forums also give the attendees an opportunity to network and brainstorm about better ways to serve the children of San Luis Obispo county. The Public Forum is free to anyone who wishes to attend.

In 2004, 261 individuals attended meetings.

The Public Forums are held at the Veterans’ Hall in San Luis Obispo on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Anyone interested is welcome and encouraged to attend. A different topic on Child Abuse Prevention is presented each month.

Permanency-Making Connections for Youth Presented by Independent Living Program Date: March 12th, 20089 Time: 8:30-9:00am Networking & coffee 9:00am - 10:00am Introductions and Presentation Place: Veterans Building, 801 Grand Ave., San Luis Obispo, CA The Public Forum is free to anyone who wishes to attend San Luis Obispo County is dedicated to ensuring that every youth in the foster care system will have a committed relationship to at least one adult including a steady education, solid community ties and a consistent group of people they know as their friends and family. Representatives of the Independent Living Program will discuss how Cuesta College, San Luis Obispo County Department of Social Services and the California Permanency for Youth Project advocate for and work together to establish life-long connections for the 200+ foster children/youth in San Luis Obispo Couny. They will also discuss how these groups promote the California Foster Care Non-Discrimination Act. (AB 458). Creating permanency is an active and continuous process and is most successful when professionals and family members work together as a team.
